CHARM
OF UMERA AHMED’S DRAMAS
The name “Umera Ahmed”
needs no introduction since it has created a place of its own among the giants
of Urdu prose. Drama channels provided a platform to writers like Umera Ahmed
to display their work and the moment people watched her first drama, they were
spell-bound. Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishan, Doraha, Maat, Daam, Durr e
Shehwar, Shehre Zaat and the most recent serial Zindagi Gulzar Hai have taken
the level of Urdu dramas to a zenith.
The themes of her
dramas revolve around family, relationships, religion, the society and its
hypocrisy. She owns a deep insight into the psychology of humans and thus she
pens down all the intricacies that go in the mind of a man, woman or even a
teenager. It is a wonder as to how she can depict the story from a man’s
perspective as well as a woman’s with sheer brilliance and alacrity. Her characters
in the dramas, specially the woman, acquire a special place in the dramas and
in the hearts of her audience. She makes people fall in love, hate and jealousy
with the characters and puts to test our various human emotions for them.
Urdu language was
losing its charm when Pakistani channels started broadcasting Indian dramas and
displayed a dire need of Pakistani content. Umera Ahmed came to the rescue of
Pakistani culture and content with her novels and her beautiful stories and got
people addicted to Pakistani media. Her art knows no bounds when it comes to
teaching society moral values and breaking all sorts of stereotypes regarding
men and women. Her dramas create a whole new world of fiction, imagination and at
the same time, make us believe that it is all real. She has a charm to create
stories that last in the mind of audience for a long time.
(The page to which I submitted this article selected some other article which had to my surprise a terrible sentence structure and grammatical errors. anyways. here's my take on the legendary Umera Jee.)
